HUMANSCALE CHAIR PROS:
- Ergonomic chairs generally do work to enhance comfort while sitting for long durations.
- There are many many positive online reviews of Humanscale chairs. The quality and performance of the Humanscale brand is well validated.
- Reinforces good posture while sitting.
HUMANSCALE CHAIR CONS:
- Since it doesn't actively re-balance postural muscles, it won't reinforce good posture when not used.
- Works best when combined with posture correction exercises.
- Relatively expensive. You may be able to get the same ergonomic benefits from another chair at half the price; albeit with some sacrifice in quality.
Why BODY-ALINE is Better for Your Posture:
Like many other higher priced ergonomic chairs, Humanscale chairs (M2, M8, Liberty, etc) are extremely effective for enhancing comfort. Their ergonomic designs contour to the shape of your back to improve posture, and relieve pain & pressure points. But what happens during the rest of the time when you’re NOT sitting in one of these comfort chairs? If the goal is to help you maintain correct posture while sitting AND standing, wouldn’t it make more sense to invest in a product that improves your posture 24 hours/day, 7 days a week - instead of just when your sitting?
With the BODY-ALINE back & posture exercise machine, you can be assured perfect posture ALL the time. Unlike ergo office chairs & furniture, the BODY-ALINE is specifically designed to correct poor posture with 1 simple exercise motion in less than 2 minutes/day. Ergonomic desk chairs, like HumanScale, are best used when combined with the BODY-ALINE. In fact, we recommend using an ergonomically designed chair when your sitting all day at work and then relying on the BODY-ALINE to keep your posture perfect for the times you're not sitting in the chair. Many have asked the questions: "Do Human Scale chairs work?" and "Are Human Scale Chairs effective for posture?" This analysis summarizes why, in our opinion, the BODY-ALINE is a better total posture solution compared to even the best office chairs for posture, like the Human Scale Freedom & Liberty task chairs.
I recently upgraded my computer chair to a fully ergonomic model. I used to slouch terribly in my old chair so I considered the $500+ (yeah I know, not as much as some, but still not too shabby) that I spent on my new chair an investment in my health & posture. When I brought my chair home, I had all the best intentions in mind, I would adjust everything perfectly & begin to sit at my computer properly, according to all the rules. I lasted about 3 hours after that I was back to my old slouching ways.

A Personal Review of HumanScale Chairs from Robert Gearhart JR., Co-Inventor of the BODY-ALINE...
"It may not be a Human Scale but I use an ergonomic chair. They are, without-a-doubt, an integral part of the good posture equation. With that being said, I highly recommend a dual approach to good posture that involves buying an ergonomically designed chair AND using the BODY-ALINE. Each product enhances the benefit of the other. Also, when buying an ergonomic chair, choose a chair that makes you feel the most comfortable - as in one that does the best job for YOU in terms or reinforcing good posture. What the salesperson suggests is NOT necessarily what's best for you; and fancy brand names or exorbitant prices shouldn’t be your guide either. Instead, let the answer to the question "How does the chair make you feel?" be your guide as to what will work for you. My ergonomic chair costs a fraction of that of a Humanscale and I’ve been sitting on it for years - so durability is not a concern. As a matter of fact, I’m sitting in my favorite ergo chair right now thank you very much."
