PROS:

- Inexpensive
- Easy-to-use

CONS:

- Uncomfortable
- Only works while being worn
- Extra support actually weakens postural muscles
- Not a good long-term solution

The problem with traditional posture braces is that they do the work for you. The passive nature of having one's shoulders pulled back serves to weaken the back muscles, which actually worsens one's posture over time, thus defeating the very purpose of using a posture correction brace.

- Matt Franklin, Developer of "Automatic Posture" (an online posture & ergonomics course)

Why BODY-ALINE is Better for Your Posture:

These don't correct the muscle imbalances that cause poor posture. In fact, the extra support offered by these types of products will actually make your postural muscles weaker. Here's how: The effectiveness of these types of products is predicated on applying rearward pressure to your shoulders (constriction) to draw them down & back, which does improve posture.  However, during this process, the postural muscles that should be (and could be) drawing your shoulder's down & back are actually resting. When muscles rest for too long, they become weaker.  When these muscles become weaker, it further reinforces the muscles imbalance that's already causing your bad posture! Therefore, relying on these exterior devices to correct your posture, instead of your muscles, forces you to have to wear the device ALL the time because, when you take it off, your posture ends up worse off than when you started! If you've ever worn a cast, think about how your arm or leg felt jelly-like after the cast was removed. To a lesser extent, this is what occurs with consistent use of these types of tight-fitting constriction-based posture products (like vests, bras, shirts, belts, braces, etc). They actually do more harm than good in the long run and should ONLY be used as temporary solutions.

For example, let's say you received an invitation to the President's Ball and you were concerned about 'showing off' your slouchy posture while taking pictures and such. Then, and only then, do we recommend using these types of products - for one night of guaranteed posture perfection. Once again, they are NOT permanent solutions and consistent use WILL do more harm than good unless, of course, you're committed to wearing it everyday for the rest of your life. Who wants to do that? This analysis summarizes why, in our opinion, the BODY-ALINE is a better overall posture solution, compared to the very best posture vests, supports & garments.

A Personal Review of Posture Support Vests, Braces, Apparel & Girdles from Robert Gearhart JR., Co-inventor of the BODY-ALINE...

"Posture vests can be very deceiving. Upon initial impression, the premise of these products seems logical: all you have to do is wear the posture brace and your posture immediately gets straighter - and it will. But before you think your posture problem is solved, you have to ask yourself the following question: Are you are looking for a short term or long-term solution? In the short term, when posture vests are worn every once in a while, like, say, to a dinner party, they indeed serve their purpose. However, in the long term, if you're looking for permanent posture correction, a posture brace will do more harm than good because it's actually weakening some very crucial posture muscles. The effect is very similar to how muscles atrophy while wearing a body cast in that the cast is providing all the support, so the muscles don’t have to. If you’ve ever worn a body cast for any length of time, trust me, when you take the cast off, your muscles will feel like Jello. A tight fitting posture vest functions similar to a body/torso cast. So if you insist on wearing one, then do so no more than once a week. Posture vests are just temporary solutions – at best, whereas the BODY-ALINE is a permanent solution.”

CS-Posture-Instructional-books-videos-Reviews

PROS:

- Extremely Visual
- Inexpensive
- Unlike most posture products, most of these routines do correct the muscular imbalance that causes poor posture with targeted stretching AND strengthening exercises, which represents a complete posture solution - similar to BODY-ALINE.

CONS:

- Proper form can be difficult to achieve without hands-on instruction
- May not see & feel results immediately
- Require significant time commitment, sessions are usually 15-30 minutes-long and need to be done at least 3-4 times a week. Generally speaking, the more time a posture therapy requires, the less likely people are to 'stick with it'.

You should do posture exercises for 30 minutes every day. These exercises can be broken up into 10- or 15-minute sessions throughout the day.
- Chris Iliades, M.D. (www.everydayhealth.com)

Why BODY-ALINE is Better for Your Posture:

Exercise & stretching routines are good in theory but require lots of time & determination. Many start home based posture correction exercise programs with the best of intentions but don't stick with them because they require so much time & effort. The BODY-ALINE requires just minutes a day, with no sweat, no change of clothes, and very little thought or effort. Just have a seat, lean back & rotate your arms. That's it. Also, unlike these types of posture correction exercise programs, the BODY-ALINE provides immediate results. We are not exaggerating when we say you WILL stand-up taller & straighter each & every time you use it.  The same can not be said for the complicated series of good posture exercises offered in the programs & routines.

Here's another way to look at it. Over time, technology generally makes our lives easier. Well the BODY-ALINE is the only technology that makes doing back & posture exercises easier. So why bother getting on the floor and sweating through a video when you can sit down and let the smooth easy motion of an exercise machine do the work for you? The choice is obvious: Take advantage of the technology. This analysis summarizes why, in our opinion, the BODY-ALINE is a better overall posture solution, compared to the very best in posture videos, books, handouts, PDFs & guides for posture correction.

A Personal Review of Instructional Books, Handouts & Videos for Posture from Robert Gearhart JR., Co-inventor of the BODY-ALINE...

"Although the BODY-ALINE may cost a lot more than many of the posture correction exercise programs offered in books, handouts and videos; you will save in the end because time = money. If you read the quote (in gray above) it’s recommending you to follow their posture correction exercise routine for 30 minutes/day! That’s an average of 210 minutes a week (3 ½ hours)! What’s the point in toiling away for 3.5 hours every week at your posture when you really don't have to? Granted, the posture exercises routines found in various books, handouts and videos are generally inexpensive but they yield SLOW results that require LOTS of your time. Are you willing to make this trade-off?

The BODY-ALINE is a far more sensible choice for posture because it enables you to correct your poor posture in a mere fraction of the time & effort required by posture exercise floor & door routines. With the BODY-ALINE, there is NO such thing as a significant time investment -or- slow results because you will, quite literally, stand-up taller & straighter every time you use it. Guaranteed. However, if the cost of the BODY-ALINE is of a genuine concern compared to the free posture exercise videos on Youtube - fair enough. To combat this, we do offer a convenient payment plan with monthly payments that nearly everyone should be able to afford for the sake of reclaiming their posture."

"Posture Pal" (Neck Stretching Pillow) - Review:

CS-Posture-pal-Reviews

PROS:

- Effective for neck realignment
- Easy-to-use
- Recommended to be used in conjunction with the BODY-ALINE

CONS:

- Only addresses neck. Doesn't correct imbalance in rest of postural muscles
- Requires significant time commitment
  (15 minutes at a time, 3-4 times a week)

Why BODY-ALINE is Better for Your Posture:

Offers a nice stretch to realign the neck. We recommend this product (or any other device that passively stretches the neck) to be used in conjunction with the BODY-ALINE. However, realigning the neck is only part of the good posture equation. Realigning your neck (cervical region) helps, but it does NOT realign the rest of your spine. If the rest of your postural muscles (below the neck) are still out of balance, then your spine will still curve forward and take the head with it - which negates the positive effects of neck stretchers.

However, neck stretching is part of the good posture equation, so we provide instructions for a safe & effective neck stretch, that requires no equipment, with the "10 Back Saving Tips You've Never Heard Before" E-Book that you receive immediately after starting the trial. In this respect, the BODY-ALINE offers a total posture solution for the entire spine.

As you can see, we recommend neck stretching devices to be used in conjunction with the BODY-ALINE. However, you don’t need to buy a neck stretcher. Inside the “10 Back Saving Tips You’ve Never Heard Before” E-book that you receive free with your order, we provide easy-to-follow instructions showing you how to do a safe & effective neck stretch, in your home, with no extra equipment. In the same E-book, we also provide instructions for a safe & effective neck strengthening exercise. Using the BODY-ALINE, along with the neck stretching & strengthening exercises we give you, is an unbeatable combination for restoring good posture.

Skechers "Shape-Up" Shoes - Review:

CS-Skechers-shape-up-Reviews

PROS:

- Can be effective for relieving foot pain
- Easy-to-use

CONS:

- In spite of advertising claims, there's only a mild effect on posture
- Relatively expensive for a shoe
- There are consumer reports of users getting stress fractures in their leg bones.

Why BODY-ALINE is Better for Your Posture:

May relieve foot pain while being worn but does not realign postural muscles. So if you wear these shoes, and have poor posture, you will continue to have poor posture. It is impossible for something worn around your feet to restore balance to the postural muscles around your torso. However, we do recommend these shoes if they make your feet feel better but proceed with caution (see below).

Google search: "Skechers Shape Ups false advertising lawsuits" you will find a lot of evidence that this product does NOT do what is claimed & can actually cause chronic injury.

CS-Ab-Core-Exercise-Machine-Reviews

PROS:

- Some actually work your abs
- Almost any physical activity is better than no physical activity

CONS:

- The constant crunching motion from ab exercises & machines actually shorten your abdominal wall, which draws your spine forward. Without equal & opposite counter balance exercises for your lower back, your posture will NOT improve.

- Will not help you lose "20 lbs in 2 weeks" without a lot of additional diet & exercise

- Not a good posture rehabilitation exercise. Strong abs are a misnomer when it comes to posture correction derived by people with ZERO understanding of bio-mechanics

Crunches promote bad posture, even when done correctly.
- Dr. Jolie Bookspan is a Career Military Scientist with a Private Practice in Sports Medicine in Philadelphia

Why BODY-ALINE is Better for Your Posture:

Everyone seems to think: "A strong abs & core is good for posture." However, this is only a partial truth. If you did ab exercises every day for the rest of your life, you'd certainly be working your "core" but ruining your posture at the same time. Why? Because, mechanically speaking, the mass of overdeveloped abdominal muscles in front of your spine will overpower the inherently weaker & smaller back muscles along your spine. The mechanical 'tug-of-war' between these two mismatched and opposing muscle groups will, over time, quite literally weigh down the front of your spine & draw it forward.

If you doubt this... look no further than the "guerilla-like" postures of most body-builders. This occurs because bodybuilders emphasis training their abs because these are the sexy "show" muscles (for the mirror), while neglecting their lower back muscles. As a result, the over-developed abdominal wall continuously draws the spine forward against little to no resistance from the under-developed lower back muscles. If the lower back muscles were trained/developed properly, and at the same rate as the abdominal muscles, then these horrible caveman postures could be avoided. The key is balance. Most "core" & abdominal machines are trying to sell 6-pack stomachs, so they are designed to train the abs - not for developing your lower back muscles, which improves posture. The BODY-ALINE purposely does not train the abdominal wall, which is the most efficient way to achieve postural balance. This analysis summarizes why, in our opinion, the BODY-ALINE is a far better overall posture solution compared to the best abdominal & core strength exercise machines in the world.

If you have bad posture and a natural tendency to sit with a rounded upper back, abdominal exercise may actually exacerbate your bad posture.
- Jon-Erik Kawamoto, Head Trainer at JK Conditioning

A Personal Review of Using Ab & Core Exercise Machines for Posture from Jason Bowman, Co-inventor of the BODY-ALINE...

"If you did a 1000 crunches a day for a year, WITHOUT doing any other form of lower back exercises to counterbalance the new muscle mass your building in front of your spine, then you would succeed in ruining your posture. I don’t know how this concept of “working your abs for better posture” ever started. It is bio-mechanically incorrect...

The construction of the human body places the spine at an inherent mechanical/anatomical disadvantage in the sense that almost all of the muscle, skeletal & organ tissue is located in front of the spine, compared to the muscle, skeletal & organ tissue located along or behind your spine. In other words, look down at your torso & think about all the ‘stuff' in your body that's located in front of your spine versus all the ‘stuff’ that’s behind your spine. It’s a pretty big difference, eh? This is why it’s so easy to over-train the muscles in front of your spine – because there is so much of it - while neglecting the muscle along or near the spine.

What this mantra should say is “train your abdominal and back muscles in equal proportion for better posture.” If you don’t believe me, feel free to lie on your back right now and do 50 sit-ups, then stand-up and notice which direction your torso is being pulled and which way your spine is curving. It WILL be leaning & rounding forward – not backward. Try it and see. When you use the BODY-ALINE, your spine immediately migrates rearward, which is EXACTLY what you want to achieve permanent lasting posture improvement.”

PROS:

- Inexpensive
- Easy-to-use

CONS:

- Only works while being used
- Have to take it/them with you wherever you sit
- Doesn't retrains muscles to correct postural muscular imbalance

Why BODY-ALINE is Better for Your Posture:

These are passive alignment devices that don't do anything to permanently correct the root cause of poor posture, which is muscle imbalance. Granted, these devices can work to improve your hip/pelvis alignment and/or lumbar alignment while sitting on them, which helps, but you have to make yourself purposely sit back into these alignment devices at ALL times in order to receive the maximum realignment benefits. Most people don't do this. This is why it is still very possible to slouch forward while you using them - which is exactly what most people do.  An additional therapeutic benefit of some of these devices lies in the fact that some provide extra cushion for your rear when sitting for long periods to reduce pain & increase comfort, which is certainly a nice benefit. Ultimately, if you feel like you can commit to always sitting all-the-way back into these devices while using them, then we recommend buying back posture seat cushions & supports & using them in conjunction with your BODY-ALINE. Just don't expect them to permanently correct your posture when you're not using them. This is not what they are designed to do. The BODY-ALINE works to correct your posture even when you're not using it. This analysis summarizes why, in our opinion, the BODY-ALINE is a better overall posture solution compared to the best back support & posture seat cushions on the market - even those seen on TV.

When we use a chair that has a lumbar support, we can still slouch right into it.
- Lisa DeStefano, Chairman of Michigan State University's Department of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine

A Personal Review of Posture Seat Cushions & Supports from Robert Gearhart Jr. RN., Co-inventor of the BODY-ALINE...

"Posture seat cushions & supports should be part of everyone’s bad posture prevention strategy because most car seats, couches, desk chairs and stools are horrible for posture. In fact, most styles and types of seating are designed with ZERO consideration of ergonomics and spinal alignment. You can see & feel evidence of this in the design of most home furniture (Ex: plush couches), which inherently round your back – this reinforces slouching. In order to achieve good posture, the design of chairs & furniture should reinforce the natural S-curve of your spine, but most don’t. This is why we recommend accessorizing with suitable posture seat cushions & supports. The only real downfall of these types of sitting posture aids is that it's still entirely possible to sit on a chair - with one installed - and still very-easily slouch forward. Plus, they don't actively retrain any postural muscles to permanently restore their balance. Therefore, these types of seating posture aids are NOT end-all-be-all solutions for posture. Yet, most will make a nice supplement to the BODY-ALINE."

CS-Posture-Correction-Shirts-Reviews

PROS:

- Can be effective while being worn
- Easy-to-use

CONS:

- Can be uncomfortable
- Only works while worn
- Extra support actually weakens postural muscles

Wearing a body-shaping garment for an extended period of time (over 8 hours a day) can cause the contacted muscles to become lengthened & weak… Such muscle weakness is primarily the result of an almost complete reliance on the body-shaping garment for support. Now this doesn’t present a problem if you’re always wearing (it). Problems arise when you stop wearing the garment following an extended period of wearing it.”

- Dr. Nina Cherie Franklin, Research Scientist, Exercise Physiologist & Nutritionist, Health & Wellness Expert, Author, Writer & Blogger for Exercise, Fitness and Nutrition (www.NinaCheriePhD.com)

Why BODY-ALINE is Better for Your Posture:

Posture shirts don't internally correct the muscle imbalances that cause poor posture. They are just temporary fixes. In fact, the extra support offered by posture corrective shirts can actually work to make your postural muscles weaker over time. Here's how:

The effectiveness of posture shirts is predicated on applying pressure to your shoulders (via fabric constriction) to retract them, as in pull them down & back, which improves posture.  However, during this process, the postural muscles that should be & could be drawing your shoulder's down & back are actually relaxing. When muscles rest or relax for too long, over time they become weaker. When the particular postural muscles between your shoulder blades become weaker, it further reinforces the muscle imbalance that's already causing your bad posture! Therefore, relying on exterior devices & clothing to improve your posture, instead of your muscles, forces you to have to wear the device ALL the time. Why? Because, when you take it off, your posture can actually become worse compared to when you started!

If you've ever worn a cast over a limb, think about how your arm or leg felt jelly-like after the cast was removed. To a lesser extent, this is what occurs with consistent use of these types of tight-fitting constriction-based posture products (like shirts, vests, bras, belts, braces, etc). The rigid support actually weakens muscles because it forces them into inactivity. For this reason, we recommend buying posture shirts and ONLY using them on a temporary basis, while being mindful of the fact they're NOT realistic long-term solutions; unless, of course, you're committed to wearing a posture shirt everyday for the rest of your life. But, who really wants to do that? This analysis summarizes why, in our opinion, the BODY-ALINE is a better overall permanent posture solution compared to the best posture shirts & evidence based posture apparel on the market - even those featured in USA today.

A Personal Review of Posture Shirts from Robert Gearhart Jr. RN., Co-inventor of the BODY-ALINE...

“Posture shirts can be very deceiving. Upon initial impression, the premise of posture shirts seems logical: all you do is wear the shirt and your spine immediately gets straighter - and it will. However, before you think your posture problem is solved, ask yourself the following question: Are you are looking for a short term or long-term solution? In the short term, when posture shirts are worn every once in a while, like, say, to a dinner party, they indeed serve their purpose. However, in the long term, if you're looking for permanent posture correction, a posture shirt brace will do more harm than good because it's actually weakening some very crucial posture muscles. The effect is very similar to how muscles atrophy inside a cast, as explained above. Realistically, A tight fitting posture shirt functions similar to a torso cast in that the extra support provided by the fabric causes torso muscles to weaken over time, when they should be getting stronger. So if you insist on wearing a posture support shirt, then do so no more than once a week. At best, posture shirts are just temporary solutions, whereas the BODY-ALINE is a permanent solution because it actually exercises your muscles to permanently achieve good posture.”

CS-Neck-stretchers-Dr-Riters-real-ease-Reviews

PROS:

- Fairly effective for neck realignment
- Easy-to-use
- Recommended to be used in conjunction with the BODY-ALINE

CONS:

- Only addresses neck. Doesn't correct imbalance in rest of postural muscles.
- Requires significant time commitment (15 minutes at a time, 3-4 times a week)

Why BODY-ALINE is Better for Your Posture:

Passive neck stretchers have proven to be very effective for stretching neck vertebrae to help restore the natural curve. Therefore, we do recommend these products (or any other exercises/techniques that passively stretch the neck) to be used along with your BODY-ALINE.

However, realigning the neck is only part of the equation. A properly aligned neck, although helpful, does NOT realign the rest of your spine. If your chest & shoulder muscles, along with your upper, middle and lower back muscles are still out of balance, then your spine will still migrate forward and, most likely, take your head with it. This negates the overall effectiveness of neck stretching devices, which ONLY address a relatively small portion of the spine.

However, neck stretching is still part of the good posture equation, so we recommend it to be done in conjunction with your BODY-ALINE. This is why we provide a safe & effective neck stretch in the free E-book you get immediately upon ordering. Many have asked the questions: "Do neck stretchers work?" and "Is neck stretching effective for posture?" This analysis summarizes why, in our opinion, the BODY-ALINE is a better overall posture solution compared to even the best neck (cervical) stretching devices used at home or chiropractor's office.

As you have just read, we do indeed recommend neck stretching devices to be used in conjunction with the BODY-ALINE. The combination of neck stretching AND strengthening can really accelerate the cervical (neck) realignment process. Therefore, using the BODY-ALINE, along with the neck stretching & strengthening exercises we give you, is an unbeatable combination for restoring good posture.

- Jason Bowman, Co-Inventor of the BODY-ALINE

A Personal Review of Neck Stretching Exercises & Equipment from Robert Gearhart Jr. RN., Co-Inventor of the BODY-ALINE...

"Stretching only the top (cervical region) of the spine is generally not enough to realign the rest of your spine (lumbar & thoracic regions). I think it's obvious that neck stretchers may balance part of your spine but certainly not all of it - or most of it - for that matter. The BODY-ALINE provides a far more comprehensive spinal posture solution compared to the partial solutions offered by neck stretching equipment. When you use the BODY-ALINE your whole body will instantly stand-up taller & straighter, the same can not be said for isolated neck stretching."

PROS:

- Can improve comfort while sleeping
- Easy-to-use
- Posture pillows & certain accessories can be fairly inexpensive

CONS:

- Most items are not one size fits all. You have to determine what's best for you through trial & error

- It is impossible for posture bedding to permanently retrain postural muscles. Good posture while sleeping at night does not guarantee good posture during the day.

Little scientific research exists on which mattress is best... The mattress that's right for you lets you wake up feeling rested and free of pain or soreness. Unless you have a condition that may require a certain type of mattress, you should choose a mattress that provides support for the natural curves of your spine and is comfortable. The pillow for your head should support the natural curve of your neck and be comfortable.

- University of Rochester Medical Center

Why BODY-ALINE is Better for Your Posture:

Pillows & mattresses specifically designed with sleeping posture in mind may certainly work to help keep your neck, back & body in proper alignment while you sleep, which usually means less back & neck pain in the morning and a better night's sleep. However, they won't do much to help your posture when you're not sleeping. In essence, it's virtually impossible to buy any type, style or brand of posture pillows, mattresses or bedding accessories that ensure good posture during your waking hours. This requires targeted stretching & strengthening exercises, which are impossible to do while sleeping. However, if any of the various types of sleep posture products (mentioned above) enhance your comfort while you sleep, then we encourage you to use them in conjunction with your BODY-ALINE. Just don't expect proper sleeping alignment to correct your waking posture. Many have asked the questions: "Do mattresses for posture work?" and "Are posture mattresses effective?" This analysis summarizes why, in our opinion, the BODY-ALINE is a better overall posture solution compared to even the best mattresses for posture (Posture Pedic) and ortho posture mattresses.

A Personal Review of Sleeping Posture Pillows & Mattresses (Bedding) from Robert Gearhart Jr. RN., Co-Inventor of the BODY-ALINE...

"I’m a big believer in making an effort to maintain proper spinal alignment during sleep. Constantly placing your body in a position of bad alignment, while sleeping, is a recipe for disaster because you're maintaining this faulty posture for 7-8 hours/day, everyday. Over time, this can contribute greatly to muscular imbalance and increase your chances for chronic neck, back & shoulder injuries, along with snoring problems. Correcting your posture with the BODY-ALINE also helps to ensure better sleeping posture, as well as lying on posture bedding, because the BODY-ALINE reinforces good alignment & adds extra muscle along your spine. This additional muscular 'cushion' along your spine helps to reduce stress points while sleeping. Furthermore, in the free E-book you receive immediately after starting the trial, we include a back saving tip that addresses sleeping posture. Please be sure to review it and put it to good use. It's probably one of the most insightful & valuable sleeping posture tips you'll ever come across. Sleep well, my friend!"

PROS:

- Almost any form of exercise is good but not necessarily good for posture.
- Regular exercise can be done in conjunction with using the BODY-ALINE.

CONS:

- When you have bad posture, you usually exercise with the same bad posture, which only makes it worse.

If you’re like most people you spend a good part of your day sitting at a desk hunched over a computer. Constantly being in this position may result in problems with your posture that can worsen over time if you work out improperly.

Why BODY-ALINE is Better for Your Posture:

There is nothing wrong with regular exercise. But regular exercise, alone, won't correct your posture unless you pay particular attention to having good posture while doing the exercise(s). This means making sure to maintain the natural S-curve in your spine at ALL times during any exercise - without exception. If a given exercise seems to necessitate slouching, then you are either doing it wrong or you should not be doing it at all. In fact, when you perform exercises with bad posture, it will ONLY further reinforce the bad posture because you are continually conditioning your muscles to go the wrong way! If you're already committed exercising regularly - good for you, then spending a few more minutes a day on a BODY-ALINE should be no trouble at all. Making a commitment to your posture with the BODY-ALINE will also make you more aware of your posture while doing other types of exercises. Try it and see! Many have asked the question about whether general exercises work for posture correction? This analysis summarizes why, in our opinion, the BODY-ALINE is a better overall posture solution compared to regular exercise for better posture.

A Personal Review of Regular Exercise for Posture from Jason Bowman, Co-Inventor of the BODY-ALINE...

“If you still need more convincing that regular exercise, alone, is just NOT enough to correct your posture then I encourage you to visit your local gym and notice the horrible postures of half the people walking around. That should tell you everything you need to know that regular exercise is just not enough. You need targeted exercises to fix your posture, which is what the BODY-ALINE provides."

PROS:

- Costs nothing

- Can be highly effective at times, although long-term success is unlikely

CONS:

- Difficult, if not almost impossible, to execute on a regular basis. EX) Are you slouching right now?

- Requires an "iron will" that most don't have

Contrary to popular belief, willpower is not an innate trait that you’re either born with or without. Rather it’s a complex mind-body response that can be compromised by stress, sleep deprivation and nutrition.
- Stanford Medicine

Why BODY-ALINE is Better for Your Posture:

The problem with attempting to catch yourself slouching and then immediately correct it is that by the time you realize your posture needs help, chances are your postural muscles are already so grossly misaligned that it's nearly impossible to truly sit or stand-up straight. In other words, what may feel like a good posture to you - really isn't because you've lost all postural awareness. In other words, you have to battle your own bad posture muscle memory - which is very difficult to overcome, to constantly have good posture. The sad reality is that most poor posture sufferers, like you, have completely forgotten what good posture feels like. Think about it. If you've been slouching 20+ years, at this point, your body hardly "knows" any other way to position itself. Therefore, you have to consistently fight this neurological mis-guidement, along with the inherent mechanical postural muscular imbalance. This is a very difficult thing to do.

Retraining your musculature with the BODY-ALINE is far more effective than relying strictly on willpower. Plus, people who begin to use the BODY-ALINE regularly report a significant increase in postural awareness because their muscle memory is changing in a good way, so they become more apt at catching themselves slouching and immediately straighten-up. This is what happens when you mechanically change the alignment of your muscles with targeted exercises - instead of just relying on your mind to do it. Many have asked the question about whether you can will yourself to better posture. This analysis summarizes why, in our opinion, the BODY-ALINE is a better overall posture solution compared to relying on ONLY willpower for posture improvement.

A Personal Review of Using Willpower to Improve Posture from Jason Bowman, Co-Inventor of the BODY-ALINE...

“The only question you need to ask yourself as to whether good old fashioned willpower is sufficient on its own to correct your posture:

Were you/are you slouching while reading this?

Chances are that you were slouching. What does this tell you? That even while reading about good posture (what better reminder can you possibly ask for?) you are/were still NOT able to maintain good posture on your own. Needless to say, permanent posture correction is very difficult to accomplish with just your mind. I am not trying to discourage you. In fact, I invite you to try willpower first because there is no doubt it's the cheapest & fastest solution for permanently correcting poor posture, but it's far from being the most effective. Your chances of failure will be very high. However, harnessing the power of your mind AND using the BODY-ALINE is an unbeatable combination because they synergistically work together."

CS-Posture-Tape-Reviews

PROS:

- Inexpensive
- Has a neuromuscular benefit
- May provide a reminder that you need to sit or stand up straight

CONS:

- Only works while being used
- Can't apply the tape by yourself
- Tape may lose adhesiveness due to sweat & friction from shirt

The jury is still out on the hard and fast science of it, I'm still struggling to come to terms with how tape that is placed on skin can have any real, major effect on performance, other than potentially, a psychological effect.
- John Brewer, head of sport and exercise sciences and director of sport at the University of Bedfordshire in the U.K.

Why BODY-ALINE is Better for Your Posture:

There are two methods & types of tape that are used to improve posture:

Method/Type #1: Involves the use of standard athletic tape, which doesn’t have any ‘special’ properties beyond elasticity. The tape is applied on and in between the area of the shoulder blades and is used, specifically, to mechanically pull the shoulder blades together, which reinforces good posture. However, the obvious downfall of using tape to force the body’s joints into certain positions is that the tape is doing the ‘job’ that the muscles between your shoulder blades ‘should’ be doing in terms of bringing your shoulder blades together. The BODY-ALINE provides a targeted exercise that accomplishes this, which means you can rely on your body’s musculature to draw your shoulder blades together, instead of constantly applying tape. Long term, the BODY-ALINE exercise motion a much more realistic approach for correcting posture.

Method/Type #2: Involves the use of a specialized type of tape, called Kinesio tape, to correct posture. Kinesio tape is a lot different than regular athletic tape. Traditional athletic tape is pretty firm & restricts blood flow and movement, while kinesiology tape is pliable and allows for a full range of motion. Although it can be applied in a variety of patterns, Kinesio tape predominantly works by offering mild structural support for muscle, while increasing blood flow and lymphatic drainage. When applied directly to the skin, it creates a small space between the muscle and dermis layers to achieve these effects. Since poor posture is more of a biomechanical issue, versus a lymphatic or circulation issue, the direct effects of Kinesio tape's elasticity on improving posture are similar to that of regular athletic tape and the pitfalls are the same. It's a temporary solution - at best. This analysis summarizes why, in our opinion, the BODY-ALINE is a better overall posture solution compared to the best back-tape methods for improving posture & posture corrector kinesio tape (K-tape).

There has not been conclusive scientific or medical evidence to confirm the effectiveness of the tape.
- Tim Locke, Writer and Editor at WebMD

A Personal Review of Posture Tape from Jason Bowman, Co-Inventor of the BODY-ALINE...

“Posture (athletic) tape does work to some extent, as it may improve posture while being worn because the tape applies mild tension between your shoulder blades to draw them together, which brings your shoulders back. Also, the presence of the tape can serve as a gentle reminder you to keep your shoulders back. However, common sense should tell you the application of posture tape is NOT an adequate substitute for actually strengthening the muscles between your shoulder blades to permanently draw your shoulders back, as the BODY-ALINE does. Therefore, posture tape should NOT be considered a permanent solution and should only be used for short periods of time – for temporary posture training.

As for Kinesio tape, its effectiveness doesn’t seem to be supported by a lot of experts. I’ve never tried it but it certainly seems like a lot of people are buying Kinesio tape for athletic performance & injury rehab purposes mostly, and some use it for posture tape. So there maybe something to it, regardless of whether it’s benefits are chiefly psychological or not. Nevertheless, if it works for you then, by all means, use it. However, I think the BODY-ALINE is a much more straightforward and sensible solution for posture because you can actually tell what it’s doing for you – it’s not based on what is, admittedly, mystery science. ”

The Posture Pump

The
PROS:
- Easy-to-use
- Effective stretch for back & neck
CONS:
- Does not strengthen any postural muscles.
- Requires significant time commitment
- Some may find straps to be uncomfortable

Versus BODY-ALINE:
Stretching is only half the good posture equation. The BODY-ALINE stretches and strengthens your postural muscles for a total solution.

Inversion Tables
PROS:
- Simple-to-use
- Decompresses spine
CONS:
- Uncomfortable
- Offers a nice stretch but does not correct muscular imbalance.
- Requires lots of time to be effective

Versus BODY-ALINE:
These tables are great for spinal decompression and make you feel good for awhile. However, if you don't realign your postural muscles then poor posture will just set-in again.
Decompression stretching is popular but it alone is not enough to correct posture. However, we do recommend it in conjunction with the BODY-ALINE if you can handle lots of blood pressure to your head.

"I Posture" Beeper
PROS:
- Easy-to-use

CONS:
- Can be embarrassing in public
- Needs to be worn all the time for maximum effectiveness
- Calibration can be a hassle.

Versus BODY-ALINE:
Can improve posture while being worn but does not reverse the muscular imbalance that causes poor posture and is therefore not a good long-term solution.

Back Exercise Machines:
PROS:
- Easy-to-use
- Very effective for
strengthening the back (spinal erectors)
CONS:
- Swinging motion can be uncomfortable
- Easy to injure without proper form

Versus BODY-ALINE:
These machines are excellent for strengthening back muscles if you can handle the swinging motion & increased blood pressure to the head. There is also an inherent danger of hyper-extending your spine if you finish too high. You have to be careful.
A strong back is integral to having good posture but it's really only half the equation. You can strengthen your back 10 fold, but, it if you don't realign the rest of your postural muscles the spine will still migrate forward.
The BODY-ALINE strengthens your back from a seated position, which is much safer, and retrains all your posture muscles. It's a more complete posture solution.

"Posture Now" Strap
PROS:
- Easy-to-use
- Inexpensive
CONS:
- Effectiveness is questionable (read below)
- Can be unsightly when worn outside of clothes
- Very uncomfortable

Versus BODY-ALINE:
May improve posture while being worn but does not reverse the muscular imbalance that causes poor posture and is therefore not a good long-term solution.
We've also found that the strap applies rearward pressure against chest and shoulder muscles which, in effect, strengthens them. For posture correction, these muscles need to be stretched not strengthened. Strengthening front muscles will draws the shoulders forward.
